It’s finals week, and I’m asking my students to muster all their critical thinking skills to respond to the texts we have read this semester. We just completed M. Butterfly! I’m a little bit nervous. Their exam includes questions about racial stereotypes and sexual fetishes. I’m also asking to them record and relate their experience and opinion in their class blog posts. The grades on the exams will be important, but their personal writing will transcend the standards of the course. In their blogs, students will record and preserve important ideas that impact their lives. Who cares about the judgements of others?
